So… how do you deal when you HAVE acted like a weirdo in front of a VIP?

September 10, 2015God I’ve so been there! My cringiest moment was when I was having a meeting to talk about doing some work with a potential client. She was super cool and I really really wanted to work with her, so I had done a ton of research on her and her business before the call, including not a small amount of FB stalking … which led me to find out that she and I had a lot of little things in common — preferred brand of pens, type of tea, that kind of thing.
So of course during our conversation, my brain thought it would be a good idea to casually tell her about something we had in common … which ended up becoming a list of “And I like this thing you like, and also this other thing you like, and also this other thing you like…”
Painful … but I still got the gig :)

The original Dork Goblin video came about after I got to have dinner with Alexandra Franzen, who I was taking a workshop of. During the workshop, she kept mentioning this blog post of hers, or that one, and it took ALL of my might not to keep shouting, “I KNOW I’VE READ IT I’VE READ EVERYTHING YOU’VE EVER WRITTEN I LOVE YOU”

Hmmm….which mortifying story to tell? I once had a couple of guys chatting to me outside a CD release party. We didn’t know it yet but we were all personal friends of the guest of honor and were just killing time outside the club while he finished up. One of the guys turned out to be a famous rapper – except I had NO IDEA who he was. We were all chatting about what we do professionally and I ASKED HIM WHAT HE DID FOR A LIVING. He told me he was also in music and I said something like, “Oh good for you.”
Eventually, my friend came out and started at us gobsmacked. He stammered to me, “Do you all know each other?” and then he introduced me to Kanye West.
