Aka: My WIGGIEST VIDEO YET! Literally five (FIVE!) wigs – and two different non-wiggy hairstyles.
Having just come back from World Domination Summit – a giant conference of 3,000 do-gooders in Portland – and having actually enjoyed myself, I thought it was about time I shared a Top Ten of advice for anyone who’s off to a conference or event, thinks that they hate networking, and is REALLY NERVOUS.
Here you go. My favourite is pencil-mouth lady. Yours?
Whom to Approach – Blog and handy downloadable guide is HERE
Over to you
Which was your favourite networking tip from the ten? Which will you be using? Or – do you have one of your own to add? Let me know in the comments below! (Any issues? Hit refresh!)
Thanks so much for reading (and watching!). If you know anyone who’s off to a conference or event and is nervous about it, I’d LOVE if you could share it with them using one of the round buttons below.
You rule!

July 22, 2015Oh, how I heart the blushing question mark! Great tips as always, M. Thanks for sharing a slice of your genius with the rest of us :)

July 24, 2015Thanks, buddy! Was quite proud that I managed to pull that off :)

July 23, 2015There is so much gold here.
#3 and #4 are crucial. It’s so easy to fiddle with your phone and not actually be in the room.
I also LOVE #10 and the subtle mindset shift that’s necessary there:
Making friends = Adding value with low dependance on a specific outcome.
Love it!
:-)

July 24, 2015YES! You’re so right that THAT is what making friends is. And, as you know, I’m ALL about adding value, long before you need it. Thanks, Jeff!

July 23, 2015Can I add to number 9, connect with them on LinkedIn? :-) Love that the email gives you the chance to reply BACK to it, great tip, but a LinkedIn connection is another way to keep that connection warm.
LOVE this.

July 24, 2015YES! It’s a BRILLIANT idea – and I know you have loads more on how to leverage that (if you’re reading, go and check them out at kareny.com – she’s a GENIUS!).
Thanks for the nice words!

July 24, 2015Marsha, this video is great! Do I have to pick just one tip? :) They’re all so good. I really like the ‘sending the nice to meet you email’. Very classy. (And it’s usually something I *think* about doing, but you’re right, I never do!). Brilliant!

July 24, 2015Thanks! I know what you mean on the “Nice to meet you”s – I’d add that it can wait a week or two, as long as you do what the template says and put yourself in context!

July 24, 2015You always have the best tips. LOVE your videos buddies & your wigs. The graphics, sound effects and wigs are on point. Nice job editing.

July 24, 2015Thanks, buddy! Especially thanks on the editing – coming from the Video Queen that IS high praise!!

July 28, 2015Ok, my favorite is the vaguely hipstery “met-you-three-years-ago-can-ya-help-me-out?”
Also: how I wish you were around when I was being forced to go to networky, corporatey meet-and-greet events in my old job!!! Those were such miserable experiences for little introvert me. Thankfully, you’re here now to save us all from the special pain of feeling alone in a group of chatty strangers…. phew.
The biggest ah-ha for me is to ask *friendly* questions. Not every conversation has to be so serious and directly related to the event/business/etc. We’re allowed to be ourselves and to encourage others to be themselves too. Yay.
xo.

July 28, 2015Thanks so much for this, Katie! I wish I was there for Past You, too – but I’m so happy to hear you still got something out of it.
Also, i LOVE that she seems hipster to you – I think I was going for Glamorous Old Lady, I know there’s not much in it :)
